Pick a garment they will actually wear
An unworn gift tee is usually the wrong garment, not the wrong design. For a parent, or anyone who wears tees all day in the heat, the Elevate 190 gsm cotton tee is the safe middle ground. For a streetwear dresser, the Classic Premium Oversized 280 gsm tee looks like something they would buy themselves. For a child, the kids cotton tee comes in age sizes; go one size up, because children outgrow clothes quickly.
Getting the size right without asking
Asking gives the surprise away, and label sizes are unreliable: an M from one brand is not an M from another. Borrow a tee they wear often, lay it flat, measure its chest width and length, and compare with the size chart on our product page. If they fall between two sizes, take the larger. Oversized cuts are already wide, so check the chart before sizing up. If they own a plain tee or hoodie that fits them well, ideally a new or barely worn one, Bring Your Own lets you post it to us or drop it off for printing, which removes the size question. Printing onto a garment we did not supply is at your own risk, and you accept that at checkout, so avoid anything irreplaceable.
Making a phone photo print well
- Upload the original from your phone's gallery. Copies saved from WhatsApp or social media are compressed and can print soft, so if a relative took the photo, ask them for the original file.
- The customiser shows a quality note under each upload: sharp enough for a front print, or better kept small.
- For a low resolution photo, sign in and try Enhance HD. It helps, but cannot invent detail the photo never had.
- Avoid soft, faded or glowing edges, which print as a hazy halo on the fabric. Cut the person out with Remove background, which uses your monthly membership credits, or keep a clean rectangle. If it could be cut out as a sticker, it will print cleanly.
- Premium HD Heatpress prints full colour with no per colour charge, so a photo costs the same to print as plain text.
Names, dates and inside jokes
The version you approve is the version we print, so read every name, date and nickname on the preview before you confirm it. A big front print is a statement; a line on the back or a sleeve keeps the tee wearable in public. Cartoon characters, football crests and celebrity photos belong to someone else and our artwork policy lets us decline them, so use photos you took yourself.
When a tote or hoodie is the better gift
If you cannot get their size quietly, give a canvas tote: there is no size to get wrong. A hoodie suits someone who spends the day in air conditioning or travels up to the highlands, and it tends to be kept long after a tee is retired. On our 285 gsm fleeceknit hoodie, print on the chest, back or sleeves, because the hood and front pocket sit outside the printable area.
Sending it straight to them
At checkout, choose "Someone else is receiving this parcel" and add their phone number. It goes to the courier only: we will not message them, and every order update still comes to you. The packing slip in the parcel shows no prices, but it does show the delivery name, the items and any note you typed for our team, so keep that note practical and leave the surprise out.
Working back from the date
Production starts once your artwork is confirmed and is counted in working days, so weekends and public holidays add to it. Take the production time for your quantity from the table below, add courier transit, then a buffer. Self collection removes the courier leg; wait for the ready-to-collect message before you drive over. A Rush Order at checkout can shorten production, subject to availability and confirmation.
When BISHH is not the right choice for a gift
Time is the usual problem. Even a single piece goes through production after you confirm the artwork, then courier transit, so for a birthday tomorrow a print shop in your own neighbourhood will serve you better than any online studio, ours included. We do not gift wrap or include greeting cards; if the unwrapping matters, send it to yourself or collect it from the studio and wrap it first. We print on fabric only, so mugs, caps, frames and other hard items are not something we make. Customised pieces cannot be returned for a change of mind, so if you cannot measure, give the tote.
