What you need
A phone, tablet or computer with a web browser. You do not need an account to start, because Custom Lab keeps a draft on your device. Sign in if you want to save designs to your account and use them on other garments later.
Step 1: Start a canvas
Open Custom Lab. Start on a blank canvas, or pick one of the 8 editable templates and change its words and colours. There are also 9 ready-made elements to add.
Step 2: Add text
Add your words and choose from 46 fonts. Keep them big enough to read from a step away: the product designer warns you when text may be too small to print clearly.
Step 3: Add a photo, a logo or your own file
Upload a picture in PNG, JPG, WebP, SVG, GIF, BMP, TIFF or AVIF, or open a Photoshop, Illustrator or PDF file up to 200 MB. In Custom Lab on a computer or tablet, turn on Advanced to split a layered file into its layers, then move, hide or recolour each one.
Step 4: Tidy the picture
- Crop it to the part you want.
- Touch up the edges of a cutout by hand.
- Remove a background with your monthly member credits, once you are signed in.
- Change the colours of an SVG or a design file.
- Turn soft glows and shadows into halftone dots with the free Dots tool.
Step 5: Choose the product
Tap Choose product, or Save & choose product when you are signed in, and pick what to print on, such as a tee, a polo, a hoodie or a tote bag. The product designer fits your artwork to that product's print area, and there you pick the colour and sizes.
Step 6: Check before you pay
The product designer checks each picture at the size you placed it. You see a note if a picture may print soft or blurry, if a white or black background will print as a box on your shirt colour, or if parts of the picture are see-through. Look at the preview on the garment, then order one piece or many.
What does it cost?
Designing is free. You pay for the printed garment, and the price depends on the product and the print positions. There is no setup fee, no charge per colour and no minimum order.
